Counterfeiting of the US dollar is widely attempted. According to the
United States Department of Treasury, an estimated $70 million in
counterfeit bills are in circulation, or approximately 1 note in
counterfeits for every 10,000 in genuine currency, with an upper bound
of $200 million counterfeit, or 2.5 counterfeit per 10,000 genuine
notes.
Many unaware citizens are often victimized by these unscrupulous
people. Those who fail to carefully examine the money they receive or
who cash checks and bonds without requesting proper identification are
potential victims.
This recent
video shows how US dollars are counterfeited even in
other countries. Because it’s on real currency paper, it marks as a good
bill when a counterfeit- detecting pen is used.
